Rustic Getaway to Pulau Ubin|Chek Jawa
Pulau Ubin is an ideal rustic getaway as well as the last ‘Kampong’ village of Singapore. Ideal for a day’s excursion to indulge into reminiscing rural days.
How to go: Take a bumboat from Changi point ferry terminal located at Changi village, the 15 minute ride is only for SGD 3 per person.
Bushwalking trail
Taking a nature walk on the trails of Pulau Ubin is soul-refreshing! Many people explore the island through cycling(available for rent at the entrance), we prefer to walk and get our eye tonic from fragrant natural surrounds.
Beach area
Truly a rural setting in Singapore that reminds us of old days.
Beach
The small coast is great for soaking up tired feet after walk at it’s secluded beach where no one disturbs.
Wetlands
Vast wetlands fills up after a quick rainy shower spreading a cool breeze around. So serene!!
Chek Jawa
Take a long walk over windy pathway of Chek Jawa wetlands. We saw some marine species when the tide went low. The water is clear too.
Mangroves
Low tide leaves a wet and muddy mangrove plain which then allows native birds to find their food.
Native Birds
We spotted several lovely birds along our way, only few were close enough to get a picture.
Kingfisher
We also spotted a vibrant blue Kingfisher, watching the sunset from over a branch. For sure he got a better view than us. 😉
Where to eat: Pulao Ubin has a few small eateries that serve local food. By the time we returned in the evening, only one was open and was crowded with locals. They only had seafood and the surrounding area didn’t seem clean. It is better to carry your own picnic food here as there isn’t much available. There are stalls that sell cold water but all are located at the entrance area so we suggest to carry water before starting.
